Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated: May 16, 2026

This Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) is part of the Terms of Service for Very Simple Signups. It tells you what you can and cannot do on the Service. If you violate this policy, we will suspend or terminate your account without notice. We do not negotiate these decisions and they are not subject to appeal.

We wrote this in plain language because we want it to be clearly understood, including by the person being banned.

What this Service is for

Very Simple Signups exists to help people coordinate real-world events, shifts, tasks, and gatherings. Potluck signups. Volunteer shifts. Appointment slots. Carpools. Classroom helpers. The kind of thing you'd otherwise organize in a group chat or on a clipboard.

If your use of the Service doesn't look like that, it probably violates this policy.

What you cannot do

Deception

You may not use the Service to deceive anyone. This includes:

  • Impersonating a person, company, government agency, or organization you are not authorized to represent
  • Creating events that appear to be from package delivery services, banks, government agencies, schools you are not affiliated with, or any other entity you are not authorized to act for
  • Using event signups to collect personal information beyond what the event legitimately requires
  • Creating events whose actual purpose is different from what they appear to be
  • Linking from event descriptions to phishing pages, credential harvesters, or any site that misrepresents what it is
  • Using the Service to send messages that appear to be from anyone other than yourself or the organization you legitimately represent

If you would not be comfortable showing your event to the person you are pretending to be, do not create it here.

Hateful conduct

You may not use the Service to attack, threaten, dehumanize, or incite violence against people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, immigration status, religion, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, veteran status, or serious medical condition.

This is not a restriction on robust political speech, criticism of organizations, parody, or disagreement. You can organize a protest. You can organize a boycott. You can hold strong views and express them in your event description. What you cannot do is target people for who they are.

The line is whether you are attacking ideas, institutions, or actions (allowed) versus attacking people for what they are (not allowed). If you are not sure, the answer is don't.

Harassment

You may not use the Service to harass, stalk, intimidate, or target identifiable individuals. This includes:

  • Creating events about a specific person without their consent, when the event's purpose is to mock, shame, expose, or harm them
  • Using event descriptions or slot names to insult, threaten, or harass anyone
  • Repeatedly creating events targeting the same person after being warned or banned
  • Doxing, sharing private information, or facilitating offline harm

Illegal activity

You may not use the Service to organize, facilitate, or solicit anything illegal where you live, where the participants live, or where we operate. We will cooperate with law enforcement when legally required.

This specifically includes any sexual content involving minors. We will report this to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) as required by US federal law, and we will preserve and provide records to law enforcement.

Spam and abuse of the email system

You may not:

  • Use the Service to send unsolicited bulk email
  • Sign up email addresses other than your own without those people's knowledge and consent
  • Use disposable, fake, or programmatically generated email addresses to circumvent rate limits or bans
  • Scrape, harvest, or redistribute email addresses collected through the Service
  • Use the Service primarily as a way to send email rather than to coordinate an event

If you exceed our published or unpublished rate limits, your account will be throttled or suspended. We do not publish exact limits because doing so helps abusers.

Adult content

The Service is not for adult, sexual, or sexually suggestive content of any kind. This includes events whose purpose is sexual, event descriptions containing sexual content, and the use of slot names or participant names for sexual content.

Commercial misuse

The Service is intended for coordination, not commerce. You may not:

  • Use the Service primarily to sell goods or services
  • Run sweepstakes, contests, or giveaways that require purchase or payment
  • Collect payment through event signups
  • Use the Service for multi-level marketing recruitment
  • Use the Service to build mailing lists for unrelated commercial purposes

Charging a per-person fee for a real event you are organizing (potluck supplies, ticket cost, materials) is fine. Using the Service as a storefront is not.

Technical abuse

You may not:

  • Circumvent or attempt to circumvent any rate limit, security control, or access restriction
  • Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service without express written permission
  • Use automated tools to create accounts, create events, or submit signups
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service or the servers it runs on
  • Attempt to access accounts, events, or data that do not belong to you
  • Use the Service in any way that imposes a disproportionate load on our infrastructure

If you are a security researcher and have found a vulnerability, please email security@verysimplesignups.com. We will respond and we will not pursue legal action against good-faith research conducted under standard responsible disclosure practices.

Circumvention of bans

If we suspend or terminate your account, you may not create a new account. Doing so is itself a violation of these Terms.

What happens when you violate this policy

We may, at our sole discretion and without notice:

  • Remove or disable specific events
  • Throttle your account
  • Suspend your account pending review
  • Terminate your account permanently
  • Block your email address, IP address, or payment method from future use
  • Preserve records of the violation for our protection and for law enforcement
  • Report the violation to relevant authorities, where appropriate

We do not owe you an explanation. We do not owe you a warning. We do not refund paid subscriptions terminated for AUP violations.

If you believe we have made a mistake, you can email appeals@verysimplesignups.com once. We will read it. We will not enter a debate. Our decision after reviewing your appeal is final.

Reporting violations

If you see something on the Service that violates this policy, click the "Report this event" link on the event page, or email abuse@verysimplesignups.com.

When you report a violation, please include the URL of the event and a brief description of the problem. We review every report. We do not promise a response, but we do read them.

If you are being harmed by content on the Service and need urgent help, write "URGENT" in the subject line. We will prioritize it.

A note on judgment

This policy cannot list every possible misuse of the Service. We will use judgment to apply the spirit of these rules to situations they don't explicitly cover. The principle is simple: this Service is a tool to help people coordinate real things they are doing together. If you are using it for something else, especially something that hurts other people, you don't belong here.

We will err on the side of removing harmful content and we will not apologize for it.
